English boy: Hello Ahmed, you look a bit sleepy?
Ahmed I was awake most of last night.
It's Ramadan you know.
English boy: Ramadan?!! Tell me more.
It lasts for a month, doesn't it?
Ahmed Yes, it does.
Actually, Ramadan is the name ninth month
in the Islamic year.
All Muslims must fast during the day
for the whole month.
We don't eat or drink until
we've the dark.
English boy: It sounds difficult. Why do you do it?
Ahmed Well for several reasons but mainly
to help us to remember our obedience to Allah.
English boy: I see
but you didn't fast a whole of Ramadan last year, did you?
Ahmed No, I didn't. That's because I was ill.
If you're ill, you don't have to fast.
You can do it later when you're well.
English boy: Something special happens at the end of Ramadan, doesn't it?
Ahmed That's right, it does.
That's a big celebration. It's called Eid Al-fitr.
It's a lot of fun and it's excited for children
because they are received gifts.
